The mountain areas of the Abruzzo region are not easy to travel.
This is why its
inhabitants used to be known as uncommonly reserved and stubborn individuals.
Vine-growing and wine-making have deep and ancient roots in Abruzzo.
After the second world war a good number of growers chose to form cooperative
societies, which now produce two thirds of the Abruzzo wine.
Thanks to the
important improvements brought to vineyards and wine making
techniques, a great red is gaining ground in the international markets:
the Montepulciano, an intensely vigorous and warm wine.
